New for the Class of 2012, the Advancing Women in Engineering Program (AWE) is offering a pre-orientation program for incoming women engineers August 24-28th. During the program new students will have a variety of opportunities to learn about Penn Engineering and the city of Philadelphia including:
- Meeting your fellow Class of 2012 women engineers
- Meeting current undergraduate and graduate women in Penn Engineering
- Interacting with Penn Engineering Faculty
- Taking trips around Philadelphia
- Getting information about student clubs and leadership opportunities in the Engineering
This is a great time to get to know Penn and other women engineers in a relaxed setting before New Student Orientation begins!
The AWE program will be facilitated by upperclass and graduate women who are part of the Advancing Women in Engineering Advisory Board and who are leaders in the Penn Engineering community. Participants will be allowed to move into their campus residence early as part of the program. The program begins the evening of Sunday, August 24, 2008 and ends the afternoon of Thursday, August 28, 2008.
Tentative Schedule
Sunday, August 24th
9-2pm Move in to College Houses
2pm AWE opening reception
4pm Meet with AWE student volunteers/Engineering Tours
6:30pm Dinner in Center City
Monday, August 25th - Wednesday, August 27th
These three days will be a combination of activities and sessions including: student and faculty panels, advice from experts, engineering activities,computing essentials, and trips around Philadelphia.
Thursday, August 28th
9-12pm Morning Activities
12pm Closing Luncheon with Dean Eduardo Glandt
Selection Process
We are able to accommodate approximately 40 participants in this year’s program. Therefore it is important that you apply by the deadline, July 11th, 2008. Those invited to participate will need to promptly complete registration forms and submit payment. Students may apply to other Penn pre-orientation programs as well and then decide which program to attend based upon their selection status. You may only attend ONE program.
Cost of Program
Each participant is required to pay $380.00. This fee covers early move-in fees, meals, activities, and a T-shirt. A partial scholarship is available to eligible students who qualify for financial aid through Penn.
