Director of the Advancing Women in Engineering Program

Michele Grab has been the Director of Advancing Women in Engineering (AWE) at Penn for the past year where she has been in charge of spearheading the AWE initiatives.  Recruiting a student advisory board, coordinating a summer program for middle school girls and a pre-orientation program for incoming women engineers are some of the first programs she has worked on for AWE.  Prior to her position in Engineering, Michele spent 3 years as the House Dean of Stouffer College House and as an Academic Advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Penn.  Michele came to Penn from Pittsburgh, where she spent 5 years in the Dean of Student Affairs office as the Coordinator of Special Projects and the Coordinator of Student Development at Carnegie Mellon University.  In those positions she was responsible for gender-related programs, coordinated sexual assault outreach education, provided support services for sexual assault survivors, organized leadership programs, coordinated a scholarship program, and supervised a residential building of 300 residents. Michele has continued her involvement in the area of sexual assault education at Penn as a steering committee member of the West Philadelphia Campus Community Consortium to Reduce Violent Crimes against Women.  Michele has a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from the State University of New York at Geneseo.  Contact Michele at mgrab@seas.upenn.edu or at 215-573-6487.
