In March 2000 we moved into a brand new wet lab facility that is located within the engineering complex at Penn, and is less than one-half block from the clinical facilities at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. In total, we have approximately 7,000 square feet of space shared among six faculty members. In this space we have facilities for general microscopy, cell culture, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, device development, and computational work. In addition, an extra 1,500 square feet of lab space is available in an adjacent building for use by our group. The facilities are well equipped with supplies and instrumentation - for example, we have a new two photon confocal microscope that was funded, in part, by a grant to Dr. Margulies from the NSF that allows us to probe the structure of tissues from the brain and spinal cord in a much more detailed fashion than previously possible. Additionally, shared equipment resources from the investigators in the labs is available for use, and significantly enhances the research capabilities of all of the groups.
