  Neha Manohar: Crossing Oceans and Disciplines for Research
 
Neha Manohar, a graduate student co-advised by professors Daeyeon Lee and Kathleen Stebe in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, is at the center of a wide-ranging research project to develop materials for multifunctional coatings on emergency tents. Their goal: enabling them to manage water, prevent the spread of bacteria and capture and store solar energy.

  Exploring New Worlds: Penn Students Design an Ice Drilling Robot for Mars
  Wanda Lipps, Gautam Nagaraj, and Michael Gromis, all graduates of Penn Engineering’s Class of 2017, watched as a large drill, supported by a boxy metal frame, dug down into a container of dirt and ice. The students, members of the Mars Water Horizons team at Penn, were testing an ice drilling robot they had built as part of a NASA student challenge to design a system that could recover water from the surface of Mars.

  Brain Network Organization Changes Influence Improvements in Executive Function
 
Danielle Bassett, Eduardo D. Glandt Faculty Fellow and Associate Professor in Bioengineering, recently collaborated with colleagues from the Perelman School of Medicine on a study that looks at how brain networks change as children develop into adolescence. Bassett's previous work on applying network science principles to neuroscience has suggested that the organization of these networks helps lead to "cognitive control."

Karishma Tank (M&T'17) was the student speaker at Penn Engineering’s 2017 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony. Originally from New Hyde Park, New York, Karishma graduated from the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology at the University of Pennsylvania this spring During her speech she addressed the audience with a message highlighting the importance of conquering challenges and overcoming life's imminent obstacles.
