Harris Romanoff  

Harris Romanoff

 

President of the EAS. Harris graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1998 and is currently pursuing an MSE in Integrated Product Design. In his senior year, he was awarded First Prizes in the Electrical Engineering senior design competition, the overall Penn Senior Design Competition, and the Harold Berger Award.  As an undergraduate, Harris was Vice President of Penn's IEEE student group, a member of the GRASP robotics lab, and a member of the Hexagon Engineering Society.  While on the Board, Harris has served as Chairperson of the Undergraduate Committee, Chairperson of the Alumni Society Mentoring program, Chairperson of several annual event committees and is a past Director and Vice President of the Board. Harris is currently a Vice President of Product Development at NeatReceipts, a Philadelphia company specializing in converting paper-based data into digital data through leading edge imaging and recognition technologies.

Nancy Harris

Vice President of the EAS and Co-chair of the Alumni Society Mentoring Program.  Nancy graduated with a BAS in '79 with a concentration in bioengineering.  Graduated with a DMD in 1983.  Then, completed a one year general practice residency at Albert Einstein Northern Division.  Currently, practices general and cosmetic dentistry at her office located in the Medical Towers Building at 17th and Locust Sts, Philadelphia.  Dr. Harris is currently a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Society, Philadelphia Dental Society, and Academy of General Dentistry.  She mentors Penn students who are interested in dentistry in her private practice.

Russ Miller

Vice President of the EAS. Russ graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1969.

He worked for Western Union Telegraph Company in various technical and management positions from 1969 to 1985.

He worked at SEI Corporation, now SEI Investments, from 1985 to 1990 where he was responsible for the design, installation, maintenance and operation of the data network and three US based data centers.

From 1990 to 2000, he was a Senior Manager at Shared Medical Systems. In 2000, he was promoted to Vice President of Network Services for Siemens Medical Solutions Health Services.

He became an independent consultant in 2004 at RRM Communication Consulting.

Russ is also the President of the University of Pennsylvania Amateur Radio Club.

Jim Brennan

Vice President of the EAS. Jim graduated in 1970 with a BSCE degree. Went on to earn MS and MBA degrees. Director of Annual Giving at Friends' Central School in Wynnewood, PA.

Carl Clyde

Secretary of the EAS. Carl graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1983.  While at Penn Carl was a member of the Light Weight Crew team and Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Carl currently is a Manufacturing Automation Manager at Merck & Co., Inc. working in the Vaccine Manufacturing area.

Stan Warchaizer

 
Treasurer of the EAS. Stan retired from the Lockheed Martin Co. in February of l998. Mr. Warchaizer worked for 36 years for the General Electric Aerospace Group, which eventually became a part of Lockheed Martin. During his time with the company, Mr. Warchaizer advanced through the engineering management chain and worked as both functional manager and program manager on a number of notable projects, including Program Manager of the Air Force primary communications satellite, DSCS III and Program Manager of design and fabrication of the present NASA primary satellite ground station at White Sands, New Mexico.
 
In his last position at Lockheed Martin, Mr. Warchaizer managed the classified data systems business area for the Management and Data Systems Co. of Lockheed Martin, with yearly sales in excess of $500,000,000.
 
Since his retirement, he has been involved with volunteer work at the Philadelphia Art Museum and the University of Pennsylvania, in addition to his efforts with Congregation Or Ami.

Timothy J. Carlsen

Past President of the Engineering Alumni Society (2004 - 2007). Tim graduated with a BSE in SSE in 1992, and received an MSE from the University of Notre Dame in 1993. While a student at PENN, Tim was the President of the Hexagon Engineering Society, skied on the PENN ski team, participated in the William Penn Scholars program, tutored freshmen engineering students, and received the David S. Fine Memorial Award in Civil Engineering at time of graduation. Tim has served as the Chairman of the D. Robert Yarnall Award nominating committee, Chairman of the Alumni Society Mentoring program, Chairman of the Senior Design Competition and is a past Director and Vice President of the Board. Tim currently works for Affiliated Engineering Laboratories in Edison, New Jersey as a consulting forensic engineer, specializing in civil, environmental and structural engineering matters.

Mickey Kaufman  

Mickey Kaufman

Past President of the Engineering Alumni Society (EAS) 2001 to 2004. Mickey graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1970 and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1971. Went on to earn an MBA in 1972 and a JD in 1975. He is in his 25th year with Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ, where he is currently Vice President - Law for the Vision Care Franchise and Assistant General Counsel.

Brad Abrams  

Brad Abrams

Past President of the Engineering Alumni Society (1998 to 2001). Brad graduated 1990, BS Mechanical Engineering & Applied Mechanics. Presently VP Operations with Economy Plumbing & Heating Supply Company, a wholesale distributor in the Delaware Valley Servicing Mechanical, Heating, Plumbing and General Contractors in new commercial and residential construction and individual renovations.

Walter Korn

Past President of the Engineering Alumni Society (1995 to1998) and Chair of the Senior Design Competition. Walt graduated with a BSEE in 1957 and an MSEE in 1968. Registered Professional Engineer and Certified Manufacturing Engineer retired from GE/Lockheed Martin Aerospace. Now an independent consultant working in the areas of Manufacturing and Facilities Management.

Eric Benshetler  

Eric Benshetler

Past President of the Engineering Alumni Society (1993 to1995). Eric graduated with a BSE in CSE in 1977 and an MSE in CIS in August 1977. Earned an MBA in International Business at Temple University in 1986. Also involved at Penn as co-president of the Class of 1977, member of the Alumni Class Leadership Council, and an interviewer for the Secondary School Committee. Works as a software development manager at Unisys Corporation in Malvern, Pennsylvania, where he's also on the Penn relationship team.

Dick Fallows

Past President of the Engineering Alumni Society (1990-1993). Dick graduated with a BSME in 1951 and with GEE in 1967. Retired from the Unisys Corporation as Staff Engineer in Secure Communications. Other major experience as Engineering Manager in Air Traffic Control System Design with Unisys.

Marion Hubing

Past President of the Engineering Alumni Society (1986 - 1987). Ms. Hubing received her B.S. in chemical engineering in 1964 from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude with awards from the American Institute of Chemists, the American Society for Testing Materials, and Pi Mu Epsilon, the mathematics honor society.  She was the first female from Penn to become a member of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society.  She was also the first female to be elected president of the Engineering Alumni Society for the University of Pennsylvania.  She worked as a chemical engineer for Rohm and Haas and Sun Oil Company for over twenty years.

Ms. Hubing received her J.D., magna cum laude, in 1990 from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  Her honors include the Order of the Coif and membership on the Moot Court Board.  She is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and is admitted to appear before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the District of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.  She is a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and the Association of Alumnae of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dick Mulford

Past President of the Engineering Alumni Society (1965 - 1967). Executive Director, Secretary, & Treasurer of the Engineers' Club of Philadelphia since 1991. Dick worked at the Philadelphia Electric Company in a range of capacities from 1952 to 1991. Graduated the Tuck Executive Program at Dartmouth College in 1985 in addition to receiving an MSME in 1957 and a BSME in 1952 from Penn.

Dane Hyatt Carswell

Dane graduated in 2003 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Cum Laude. He currently works as the Lead Product Engineer for American Shower & Bath / Aqua Glass. While at Penn, Dane participated in the 2001 American Solar Challenge, a cross-country solar car race following old Route 66 from Chicago to L. A. He went on to lead the team for the 2003 race. Also during his time at Penn, Dane served as Co-Director for the Engineering Peer Advisory Council and Student Coordinator for Transfer Orientation and Advising as well as working in Kings Court / English College House as a Resident Advisor his senior year.


 

Ernest Churchville

Ernest graduated with a BSME from Drexel in 1983 and an MSE from Penn in 2004. Ernest works as an engineer for Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Eileen McCarthy Feldman

Eileen graduated with a dual degree from the Engineering School and from Wharton in 2002. She is currently working in New York City as an Environmental Engineer for Hazen and Sawyer. While at Penn, Eileen was President of the Management and Technology Club, a Peer Advisor for Engineering freshmen, a member of Hexagon Senior Engineering Society, captain of the Synchronized Swim Team, and received the Sidney Shore Award in Civil Engineering at time of graduation.

Farnia Fresnel

Farnia graduated with a BSE in Systems Science Engineering and completed an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business.  Farnia serves as a judge for the Senior Design Competition and as a member of the Yarnall Award selection committee.  She currently works in New York City as an Account Manager for the global program management consulting firm, Pcubed, Inc.

Hank Guckes

Hank received a BSEE in 1961 and an MSEE in 1973. Upon graduating in 1961, he worked for the Philadelphia Electric Co before joining IBM in 1963 as a Scientific Systems Engineer. He helped lead the team that installed the first large scale digital computer used in the Penn Jersey Maryland (PJM) Power Interconnection Organization. Hank spent 16 years with IBM in various technical, marketing, and management positions. He joined the Reliance Insurance Company in 1980 as assistant Vice President of the technical support organization within IT. In 1985, He joined the Continental Insurance Company as Vice President of Technology. Hank left Continental upon its merger with CNA in 1995. He joined IDP (A privately held Insurance software and services firm) as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In 1998, Hank joined Independence Blue Cross as Senior Director of Technology where he was responsible for the technical areas within the Information Systems Organization. In 2008 Hank retired from Independence Blue Cross and currently works at Princeton Information Ltd. as a consultant.

Matt Quale

Matt received a BSE in Chemical Engineering in 1998 and began working in Process Research for Mobil Oil Corporation in Paulsboro, NJ.  Then in 2000, he went to work for Rodel, a company based in Newark, DE that provides consumables for the semiconductor industry.  In 2005, after Rohm and Haas bought Rodel, Matt transferred to the corporate research facility in Spring House, PA where he now manages two Process Development groups in the Specialty Materials Division.

Matt is a member of the Engineering Alumni Society Mentoring committee and has served as a mentor for the past three years.  He has also served as a judge for the Senior Design Competition for the past three years and continues to be the lead engineering recruiter for Rohm and Haas at the University of Pennsylvania.

Alan Schultz

Alan earned a BSME degree from Penn in 1959 and a MME degree from Villanova in 1964. Retired from Automated Test Labs in 2002, after working 43 years mainly in the HVAC field.

Harry Vartanian

Harry graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 2003 with a M.S. in Electrical Engineering. After working as a patent examiner at the United States Patent Office for two years, he currently prosecutes patents as a Patent Agent with Volpe and Koenig, P.C. in Philadelphia.
