About Our Director

Michaile Rainey

Michaile Rainey became the Director of Advancing Women in Engineering at Penn in January 2015. Some of her responsibilities include academic advising and spearheading AWE initiatives: recruiting a student advisory board, coordinating a summer program for middle school girls and a pre-orientation program for incoming women engineers. Before her appointment at Penn, Michaile served as the Senior Associate Director of Bryn Mawr College Career and Professional Development. She worked in partnership with students regarding their preparation for life beyond Bryn Mawr. Prior to this position, she started her higher education career as the former director of The Women’s Center at The Lincoln University, PA. During her tenure at The Lincoln University, she was charged with creating an environment on campus that supported women in every aspect of their college career including retention, social and personal development, and health and wellness. Michaile is originally from Philadelphia and attained her high school diploma from West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School. She is proud to be a first-generation college student. Michaile received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the College of the Holy Cross and her master’s degree in Social Work from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. She was the recipient of the Child Welfare Diversity Training Grant at Boston College.
