Career Path Electives

The curriculum requirements in both the BAS and BSE programs have three sections which enable students considerable freedom in selecting courses.

Career Path Technical Electives.   In this section students can select Engineering, Science, and Mathematics courses enabling them to expand their interests in science and technological areas other than Bioengineering. In addition, Technology in Business and Society courses also qualify in this category. The Career Path category is useful for students interested in a science dual degree or minor, dual majors, premed students, and submatriculants.

Free electives.  Any courses. If you are a dual degree student or are interested in a minor, you can use this category to enrich your Bioengineering program and fulfill requirements in other programs.

Social Science and Humanities (SSH).   In this category too, you can select courses from an extremely broad range. The Engineering School approved SSH list includes courses in topics such as economics, political science, linguistics, and more. Up to two Technology in Business and Society courses also qualify in this category. Bioengineering students from the Class of 2007 are required to take BE303, Ethics and Professional Responsibility for Engineers. Other classes are strongly encouraged to take BE 303, which qualifies in the SSH category.
