Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS)
The Bachelor of Applied Science degree offers students breadth
and allows them to combine a technology-based degree with considerable
course work in the liberal arts, communications, business or
fine arts. It is designed primarily for students whose interests
are not oriented toward a professional engineering career. It
is a popular degree option for those preparing for careers in
medicine, business, and law. Many students who are pursuing
dual degree programs opt for this degree. The BAS degree, as
of 2004, requires a minimum of 40 course units. The Bioengineering
BAS program provides more
freedom in selecting technical electives including Engineering
Technology, Business and Society courses, and linking courses,
compared to the BSE degree.
The curriculum in both the Bioengineering BAS
and BSE programs is the same in the first two years. This enables
all Bioengineering students to proceed with their studies before
deciding their degree program until the end of the sophomore
year. Students may change between the BAS and BSE curricula.
