From the Northeast via the New Jersey Turnpike South Use
Exit 4. Bear right out of the toll following signs to Philadelphia
and Ben Franklin Bridge. After crossing the bridge take I-676 West,
to I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. Follow I-76 East to Exit
346-A (old exit number 40) -- South Street (a left-lane exit). Turn
right onto South Street and go to 33rd Street. Turn right onto 33rd
Street and the School of Engineering is half-way up the block on
your left.
From the West via the Pennsylvania Turnpike Use Exit 24, the Valley
Forge interchange. Take I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway, approximately
17 miles to Exit 346-A (old exit number 40) -- South Street (a left-lane
exit). Turn right onto South Street and go to 33rd Street. Turn
right onto 33rd Street and the School of Engineering is half-way
up the block on your left.
From the North via I-95 South Use the I-676/Center City Philadelphia
Exit. Follow signs to I-676 West, the Vine Street Expressway. Take
I-676 West until I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. Follow I-76
East until Exit 346-A (old exit number 40) South Street (a left-lane
exit). Turn right onto South Street and go to 33rd Street. Turn
right onto 33rd Street and the School of Engineering is half-way
up the block on your left.
From the South via I-95 North, follow the signs for I-76 West/Valley Forge and PA 291 E (Penrose Ave). Take exit 13 onto PA 291 toward I-76 W/Valley Forge and Center City Philadelphia to go over the Platt bridge. Immediately after crossing the bridge, at S 26th Street. turn left and follow 26th Street until it merges onto the Schuylkill Expressway/I-76W. Take I-76W to the South Street exit (a left lane exit). Turn right onto South Street
and go to 33rd Street. Turn right onto 33rd Street and the School
of Engineering is half-way up the block on your left.
Philadelphia Public Transportation
Philadelphia's mass transit system is SEPTA, Southeastern Pennsylvania
Transportation Authority. SEPTA operates a coordinated system of
bus, subway, elevated train, and trolley lines that covers all of
Philadelphia and parts of the surrounding counties. Exact change
($2.00) or a token is required. Weekly and monthly SEPTA TransPasses
are also available. Tokens are available at all subway stations,
and both TransPasses and tokens can be purchased on campus at the
Penn Book Store. Fares are subject to change.
From the Airport
The Philadelphia International Airport is located in the Southwest
section of the city, approximately twenty minutes from the University
of Pennsylvania campus.
Out of the airport, follow the signs for I-76 West/Valley Forge and PA 291 E (Penrose Ave).
Take exit 13 onto PA 291 toward I-76 W/Valley Forge and Center City Philadelphia to go over the Platt bridge. Immediately after crossing the bridge, at S 26th Street. turn left and follow 26th Street until it merger onto the Schuylkill Expressway/I-76W. Take I-76W to the South Street exit (a left lane exit). At the top of the ramp, turn left to head into campus. At the second traffic light (33rd Street), turn right. The Towne Building is located at 220 South 33rd Street.
Convenient train service from the airport to 30th Street Station
is available through SEPTA's Airport Express Train which leaves
every half-hour. The trip takes approximately twenty-five minutes. The University City
Station is about a five minute walk west on Spruce Street to our
campus. The 30th Street Station is about a fifteen-minute walk or
a short taxi cab ride to campus.
From Amtrak's 30th Street Station
The campus can be reached from 30th Street Station by cab, on SEPTA's
Green Line (to either 33rd and Market, then walk two blocks south
to the Engineering School) or the Market-Frankford Line (to 34th
and Market Streets, then walk two and one-half blocks south to Smith
Walk), or by foot; 30th Street Station is a fifteen-minute walk
from the heart of campus.
Parking
There are several parking facilities located on or near the engineering
school, as well as metered street parking. Recommended garages and
lots: on 34th Street between Market and Chestnut Street is a parking garage. Directly across from the Towne Building is a parking lot next to the Palladium on the
right half-way between Spruce and Walnut on 34th Street. A map of public parking lots and garages is available here.
