Current Focus of Research:

  • Bioenvironmental Engineering: Development of biological engineering processes for environmental applications.
    • Examples include biological fluidized bed processes for surface and ground water decontaminations and sequencing batch reactor processes for nitrogen removal.
  • Biological Nitrogen Removal: Nitrogen removal via biological nitrification/denitrification mechanisms.
    • Examples include nitrogen removal of amines and biofilm nitrification/denitrification kinetics.
  • Environmental Systems Modeling: Surface and ground water modeling, time series analysis of water and wastewater treatment facilities, and kinetic modeling of biodegradation processes.

Honors and Awards:

  • Fulbright Scholar, Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering, Tampere University of Technology, Tampere, Finland (1988 - 1989).
