What is LDAP and how can I use it to view the Penn Directory in my email client?
LDAP, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, is an Internet protocol that email programs use to look up contact information from a server. Penn's LDAP server provides the same information presented in the Public View of the Penn Online Directory that you can use in your email client's address book.
ISC provides instructions on how to configure your email client for the Penn Online Directory. Instructions for the following email clients are available:
- Thunderbird 2.0.0.x (Windows/Mac OS)
- Apple Mail 2.1.x (Mac OS 10.4.x)
- Apple Mail 3.4.x (Mac OS 10.5.x)
- Outlook 2003 (Windows)
- Outlook 2007 (Windows)
