Why won't Mutt save my certificate?

Question
Every time I check my email with Mutt, I get an SSL certificate message asking me to save a certificate for:

(a)lways, (o)nce, (r)eject

I type "a" for always and get a message that says "warning: could not save certificate". Then I have to type in my password again. Why won't Mutt save my certificate?

Answer
Mutt doesn't know where to save your certificate, unless you tell it. In your .muttrc file, add a line:

set certificate_file=~/.mutt-certs

This tells Mutt where to placed saved certificates.
