However, without your help, there is little we can do to protect your system from being vulnerable to attacks. Take these steps to make your system as secure as possible. The recommended software is free and easy to download.

If possible, prepare your computer before arriving on campus. Please make sure that it is up-to-date with all critical operating system updates and patches. If you're planning on purchasing a new system once you arrive, be sure to apply the following recommendations before putting it to use.

Apply security patches

Most modern operating systems support automatic updates, which should be enabled on most computers.

Anti-Virus Software

Penn provides site-licensed copies of Symantec AntiVirus to Penn users at no cost. Visit ISC's Antivirus for desktops and laptops page to download a copy.
