Software for SEAS Students

The free and discounted software listed below is available to SEAS students for use on personally owned hardware.

Important: You must have an active SEAS account in order to receive CETS support for the software and services below. Eligible users who do not have a SEAS account can request one on the SEAS Accounts page. If you are already able to receive emails sent to your_pennname@seas.upenn.edu, then you probably have an active SEAS account and do not need to request one.

Microsoft Office

Office 365 ProPlus is available to eligible Penn Engineering students, faculty and staff, providing a full version of Microsoft Office, which includes: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, and more.

To download Office 365 ProPlus on your personal devices, you must first activate your PennO365 account. Start by visiting ISC's website:

At this time, the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) is not participating in the program.

Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching

Through the Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching (formerly Imagine or Dreamspark) program, SEAS students and researchers can get free installations of a limited set of Microsoft software:

VMware Virtualization

VMware is installed on all machines in the Academic Computer Labs and Virtual PC Lab.

MATLAB & Mathematica

SEAS students and non-SEAS students enrolled in certain SEAS classes requiring MATLAB and Mathematica have access to free copy of the software by following the instructions at:

SolidWorks

A limited number of free licenses are available to students for courses or degree programs that require SolidWorks. Follow the instructions at:

Adobe

Adobe now requires users to have an Adobe ID in order to use many of its software titles. See the following pages to obtain a free Adobe ID:

Licenses can be purchased for PhDs, students and temp staff directly through Adobe's site by contacting purchasing@seas.upenn.edu to use appropriate funds. Faculty, postdocs and full time staff are eligible for discounted licenses associated with a PennName@upenn.edu account. Contact CETS for more info.

Adobe Creative Cloud titles are also available in the Virtual PC Lab and Windows Lab PCs. Simply sign in with your Adobe ID when using the software:

Overleaf

University of Pennsylvania Libraries is sponsoring free Overleaf Professional accounts for all students, faculty and staff. Overleaf Professional accounts provide real-time track changes, unlimited collaborators, and full document history. Sign up at the link below:

College Houses Computer Labs

The College Houses and Academic Services computer labs offer additional software. For example, Xcode for Mac/iOS Development is available on all the MacOS devices in their computer labs. Students who have access to the College Houses and can log onto these devices will be able to use XCode for all their Mac/iOS development needs.
