MSDN Academic Alliance Information

Software for Courses

If you are a student in a SEAS course, you can obtain Microsoft software from the following web site:

Your email address is your login name for the site. You can have your password mailed to you by clicking on the "forgot password" link on the above site. Since this is an insecure method of password distribution, please be sure you do not set this password to the same thing as your Eniac or PennKey password.

Starting in 2006, accounts are automatically created for all students registered for SEAS courses. Please allow up to one week after you have registered for a course before your MSDN account is created. Contact msdnaa-admin@seas.upenn.edu if you have questions about your account.

The MSDNAA license permits you to install the software on your personal computer. This license is non-transferable and is not eligible for retail upgrades. The license does not include a copy of the software media. You will need to download the software to install it on your computer.

Software for Student Projects

Software packages include versions of Windows operating systems, SQL server, Project, Visio and Visual Studio. Software is available through web download.

Microsoft Windows may only be installed to facilitate the use of other MSDNAA software and technologies such as Microsoft Visual Studio .NET for instruction or research. To find out what software is available visit Penn Engineering MSDN Software Distribution and browse the "Search by product titles" menu.

Some products are distributed as ISO images. Students are permitted to use these images to create a single copy of the CD for personal use only.

Note for Faculty

If there are other Microsoft titles you'd like to use in your courses, please contact msdnaa-admin@seas.upenn.edu. Note: Office is not available.

CD Purchase

In addition to installations or downloads, students now have the option to purchase some MSDNAA software at significantly discounted prices. You may still only install the software on a single computer. However, you will receive a CD which you may keep and re-install if something goes wrong.

Purchase and Pricing Information
For a list of what software is available for purchase and for software pricing information, please log into the e-academy website. (Your email address is your login name for the site.)
