2014 Graduation Ceremony Information
Undergraduate Ceremony Keynote Speaker: Dr. Mark Palatucci
Dr. Mark Palatucci is the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Anki, a consumer robotics and artificial intelligence company. While at Anki, he helped lead the development of Anki DRIVE, Anki's first product which was named as one of the Top 25 Best Inventions of 2013 by TIME magazine.
Dr. Palatucci co-founded the company in 2010 with colleagues from the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon. He and his colleagues created Anki with the belief that entirely new classes of adaptive and intelligent devices will be made possible by recent advances in artificial intelligence and plummeting prices in computing hardware. After working several years to develop core technology prototypes, Mark and his fellow co-founders relocated to Silicon Valley, raised venture capital, and grew the company from three people and a kitchen table prototype to a seventy person company that can mass produce thousands of robots every day. In 2013, Anki partnered with Apple to introduce Anki DRIVE on stage at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference, and shortly thereafter offered it for sale at all Apple retail stores across the country.
Prior to Anki, Dr. Palatucci held engineering and research positions at Google, Microsoft, and Intel, and was also the co-founder and CEO of Copera, an embedded systems and mobile software company. He is an inventor on multiple US Patents, and was awarded Ph.D. fellowships from the National Science Foundation and Intel Corporation for his research on machine learning. Dr. Palatucci earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in robotics from Carnegie Mellon University.
