Undergraduate Program > Letter from the Undergraduate Chair

Why a Materials major at Penn?

David PopeThe rapid progress of modern technology continues to be driven by advances in our understanding of the science of the materials, which underpin these technologies. An education at Penn in the field of materials science, will provide the foundation for a leadership role in a career pathway in any of the many areas of current technology.

Each student in the department receives individualized faculty mentoring throughout the course of their personally designed educational program.

All students are guaranteed an extended research experience in the labs. alongside graduate students, post-docs, and faculty.

Our faculty are consistently recognized in the top tier of teachers at Penn.
To complement your education at Penn the pursuit of a dual degree or minor in a second discipline is encouraged.

I invite you to contact me personally to discuss materials science curriculum and career paths, and to help you decide why a Materials major at Penn is right for you.
