Sponsor Benefits

The focus of EMTM is impact. Breakthroughs in science, creative ideas in business, all are directed toward translating leaps in knowledge into practical advances. While the program examines both technology and business, the overriding goal is to harness both these streams of knowledge for transformation.

Organizations that sponsor EMTM students enjoy both immediate and long-term benefits.

  • A pipeline of new ideas. EMTM students bring a steady flow of ideas, tools and practices back to their companies. What is learned in the class can be shared with co-workers and tested out the next week. In individual and team projects, students can tackle specific issues confronted at work — whether related to management, business strategy or technology deployment.
  • Immediate relevance and job impact / minimum time away. EMTM's format offers the immersion and intensity of a residential fellows program, while allowing managers to continue to contribute at work. Attending on alternate weekends, students can complete the program in 20 months. The flexibility for attending Saturday only is also available, and students can switch between full and half-time schedules in different terms to respond to changing work demands. See also EMTM At-a-Glance.
  • Extended knowledge network. From the first day of classes, an EMTM student's network of contacts expands dramatically. This network includes not only current students and faculty with unique expertise, but EMTM alumni and the wider communities and resources of Penn Engineering and the Wharton School. The ability to pick up a phone and ask a colleague for advice on a specific emerging technology, or for a referral on whom else to contact, increases EMTM student and alumni knowledge resources by new orders of magnitude. See also Class Profile, Students and Profiles.
  • Leadership talent for technology-intensive organizations. EMTM builds confidence and credibility in managers, both in their current jobs and as they take on more responsibilities. New knowledge expands their capacity to get things done, engage in rigorous planning and communicate their ideas. Broad perspectives across diverse industries help them formulate innovative solutions to business and technology challenges.

In a competitive global environment where technology is increasingly a core competence of all organizations, EMTM is developing next generation leaders who can bridge the gap to transform technological innovation into competitive advantage and commercial success.

“The course on Marketing Models gave me a blend of marketing frameworks and assessment techniques that helped me save money for HP. Before, we were paying consultants who had these tools to come in and be tutored by us on our businesses. They were costing us a small fortune.”
