The evolution of 4th generation wireless networks and technologies has significant implications for both businesses and future users. Given the significant investment in 3rd generation wireless networks and limited success of 3G applications to date, there is great interest in where the next disruption will come from in the wireless world. Some of the radical innovations at the edge are beginning to take shape and will create new future scenarios for the industry and users.

EMTM Prof. Scott Snyder offers a preview of his recently introduced course on 4th Generation Wireless Networks. The course covers fundamental 4G technologies and considers potential scenarios for technology and business models.

Scott Snyder is President and COO of Decision Strategies International, Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in scenario planning. He brings more than 18 years experience with Fortune 100 firms and technology ventures, as well as expertise in enterprise applications, CRM, analytics, satellite communications, wireless, broadband and other emerging technologies. Dr. Snyder is an adjunct associate professor at Penn Engineering and has lectured at the Wharton School, MIT and RIT. He earned his BS, MS and PhD in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an executive degree from USC in Telecommunications Management.

EMTM Presents is for anyone interested in trends and issues at the intersection of technology and business. The evening includes the opportunity to meet and talk with EMTM faculty, students and alumni at an informal reception that precedes the lecture and Q&A.

“While current systems like 3G are all about making the pipes (networks) we have bigger, 4G is about a shift in mindset. With 4G, we are working with controlled chaos — many different networks and devices interoperating — and the user's profile and context will drive what services are delivered.”
