It's not too early to start your application.
The decision to apply to a program like EMTM requires some time, thought and preparation. In fact, the application
process itself can be a way of evaluating your interest. EMTM's online application makes it as easy as possible.
Here are some suggestions for getting started:
- Start your online application. If you haven't created an account already,
log-on to get familiar with the application
process. All the instructions you need can be found online, including the ability to send electronic requests for
recommendations.
There is no fee to start an application, and you can work on it over several sessions. The online application system
is hosted by Wharton Admissions. All EMTM application information is directed to Penn Engineering and the EMTM
Admissions Office.
- Discuss your interest in EMTM with your supervisor. Financial sponsorship by your firm is not a requirement
for admission. In fact, approximately one-third of students are fully self-sponsored, and one-third share the costs
of the program with their employers. However, your supervisor's support can be extremely valuable in enabling your
participation, and in creating the best return on investment back at work for both you and your organization.
(See the Sponsor's Perspective from Corning in this issue of InSITE.)
If you plan to attend full-time (Fridays and Saturdays), you will need a Letter of Endorsement from your organization
that confirms that you will be able to take the time required to attend classes. You can request a sample "Letter of
Endorsement" and additional "Tips for Requesting Sponsorship" by emailing:
emtm-admissions@emtm.upenn.edu
- Identify and contact two recommenders. You'll want to ask two supervisors or professional colleagues who
can attest to your abilities, work experience and leadership potential. Discuss your plans with them, so that they
understand how you see EMTM fitting into your personal career aspirations. To ensure that recommendations arrive in
time we suggest that you: (1) Encourage your recommenders to use the online option to submit their evaluations,
(2) Ask them to submit recommendations by a specific date 1 or 2 weeks before the application deadline, and (3)
Follow up with them to confirm in advance of the deadline.
- Don't put off taking the GMAT or GRE. The EMTM application includes a GMAT or GRE score from within the
past 5 years. Both tests are equally acceptable and the test score is just one part of your application. Scores
are evaluated in the context of your full application profile and work experience.
Check online at www.mba.com (for GMAT) or
www.gre.org (for GRE) to find out about testing locations, dates,
and availability. If you haven't taken a standardized test like these in a while, the websites also provide free
preparation resources and sample tests. EMTM school code: 2968.
- Questions? Call or e-mail: 215-898-2897 or
emtm-admissions@emtm.upenn.edu. Paige Harker, Admissions Manager,
can provide information and answer your questions.
