Message from the Co-Directors
Headlines... Baselines... Bottom Lines
We live in an age of unimaginable technological breakthroughs. Each new headline tells a tale of stunning new possibilities
from the miniscule revolutions of genomics and nanotechnology to the expansive explorations of new galaxies.
But to translate great science into great solutions requires skilled management and creative leadership. We need leaders who
understand the technology and know how to make things happen in business. This combination of technology and management is one
of the cornerstones of modern progress and the central mission of the EMTM program.
The work of technology leaders has taken on a certain urgency, as well. Other headlines tell of the pressing needs for scientific
advances: A potential pandemic flu outbreak. Terrorism. Environmental concerns. The work of innovation and technology leadership
is more important than ever. And it is far from done.
We are pleased to be able to support this important work and are proud of our community of alumni, students and faculty. They
are helping to translate new technological insights into economic progress and solutions to the pressing needs of the world.
This newsletter opens a window onto the people of EMTM and the range of opportunities that the program has to offer. Hear from
two Corning supervisors about their experiences sponsoring EMTM students and from
two alumni returning to take part in new courses. Find out what
different paths have led to EMTM for six current and recent students. Get a taste of
current course selections and extracurriculuar offerings. Meet recent
guest speakers. You'll find that the combination of technology and management attracts
a unique kind of student and creates a uniquely dynamic learning environment.
