Student Organizations

Engineering Student Activities Council (ESAC)

ESAC is a focal point for student activities in the engineering school. It is active in organizing events, in enhancing student life, in benefiting engineering students, and acting as a means of communication between students, student groups, and the administration. In the past year, ESAC has planned several events to benefit the Penn engineering community.

ESAC is the umbrella organization for all engineering clubs. Monthly meetings are held with student leaders from each engineering organization. The meetings provide a way for engineering clubs to support one another and to create community within SEAS.

Professional Engineering Societies

Most departments are affiliated with a national professional organization. Each of these organizations has a chapter at Penn, which becomes a club for undergraduate students. Typically, these clubs will organize alumni speakers, plant tours, recreational events and social events. They are also often an avenue through which students communicate with each other, and with administration, critiquing their curricula, facilities, etc. A list of the departmental clubs and faculty advisors follows:

The following nationally-affiliated societies organize activities similar to those of the departmental organizations, while also providing traditionally underrepresented minority students with a support network. These organizations maintain a close relationship with the Office of Multicultural Programs:

The Pennsylvania Triangle

The Pennsylvania Triangle is the University's oldest continuously published magazine, produced for the university community by Penn Engineering students. The magazine actively recruits writers, artists, and photographers to help create a magazine that reflects the current happenings at Penn Engineering.

Hexagon

The goal of the Hexagon Senior Society, an organization comprised of Senior engineering students, is to promote the spirit of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. To that end, they help the Associate Dean's Office in recruiting prospective students,  arrange social events, and organize an afternoon in the fall for curriculum-deferred freshmen to learn more about the different engineering disciplines.

Engineering Deans Advisory Board

The Engineering Deans Advisory Board (EDAB) is comprised of undergraduate engineering students who provide consultation to the Dean, administration and faculty, serving as advocates for student needs and opinions. EDAB plans and organizes free lunches with students and professors along with dinners with the Deans each semester

The Engineering Peer Advisors Council

The Engineering Peer Advisors Council (EPAC) is an organization that matches incoming students with an upperclassmen in order to acclimate them to their new environment in the Engineering school by providing a comfortable outlet for students to ask nonacademic questions about college life.

CommuniTech

CommuniTech is a unique community service initiative at the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania. It is a nonprofit student organization that seeks to "bridge" the digital divide both locally and globally. CommuniTech is one of the most active student-driven community outreach groups on Penn's campus.

Solar Car

Penn Solar Racing is a completely student-run project with the purpose of designing, building, and racing solar-electric vehicles. Students are involved in design, construction, fundraising, and public relations.

Robotics

Established in the spring semester of 1998, the Robotics Club aimed to provide a forum for the continued discovery of robotics. Presently, the original goals of the program have been augmented by the discussion, invention, and fabrication of such robotic devices. Members learn about electronics, computer programming, mechanical automation, and computer drafting of robots through hands-on experience involving independent projects as well as competitions. Such projects include Lego™ Wars, F.I.R.S.T. National Robotics, and Sony™ Dog Soccer.

Technology Entrepreneurship Club - TEC

TEC allows student members with a genuine interest in technology related entrepreneurship ventures to network, brainstorm, and/or learn about the entrepreneurial process.
