PennVention 2008 - Information Sessions and Kick-off Speaker
PennVention is the University of Pennsylvania's annual innovation competition celebrating student invention, research, and technology, hosted by the Weiss Tech House.
Undergraduate and graduate student teams are eligible for valuable mentoring and the chance to compete for cash and in-kind awards.
Information Sessions
Tuesday - October 30 and November 13, 2007
6:30-7:30pm at Weiss Tech House (2nd Floor Levine)
Learn about:
- The essentials of the competition process
- What it takes to win
- How to get connected with potential team members
- What prizes and mentors are available and other ways Weiss Tech House can help you
Question and answer session along with time to speak with potential teammates and past winners will follow information session. Refreshments will be provided.
PennVention 2008 Launch
Tuesday - November 6th, 2007

Kick-off PennVention 2008 at our launch event, featuring Andrew McKelvey, founder of Monster.com, as keynote speaker. Question and answer session along with dinner and chance to speak with speaker and past PennVention participants will follow. Next Queer People of Color (QPOC) Meeting Date

This is has been a hot topic lately considering amongst other things, the recent comments made by the Iranian president concerning homosexuals in his country. But do we really understand how homosexuality is viewed amongst muslim populations? This week to help us better understand, members of the Muslim Students Association (MSA) will be joining us for a discussion on Islamic perspectives on homosexuality.
Interested in pursuing an MBA in the future? Come out on Thursday, November 8 to hear from representatives from the country’s top MBA programs.

This panel will be a golden opportunity to learn from representatives of top MBA programs. Wharton MBA Admissions and Penn Career Services are inviting MBA admissions officers from the Ten School group of top-ranked business schools (Stanford, MIT, Harvard Business School, Columbia, UVA-Darden, Wharton, Kellog, Chicago to speak with students interested in the MBA degree, and the wide variety of possibilities it can open up. This will be a terrific opportunity to find out directly from the schools about: how and when an MBA education can help you develop and achieve your career goals; how to prepare a good application for MBA programs; how to choose the right MBA program for you. There will be plenty of time to ask the panelists questions about their individual schools, as well as any other questions you might have about the MBA. The Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women takes place on November 8 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Featured speakers include former Penn President Judith Rodin, and current Dean of the School of Nursing Afaf Meleis.

SWE (Society of Women Engineers) Scholarship The Philadelphia Section of SWE is able to offer several $1,000 scholarships each year. I know that it is early in the school year, but we would like to encourage as many students as possible to apply for our scholarships. Application can be found below:

Season 5 of the hit show Beauty and the Geek has begun casting and we will be coming to your area VERY SOON, per the request of the students at Penn!
Thank you to all of the students who have been emailing, requesting the show hold a casting call at Penn (Philly), several have suggested we contact your department to help us get the word out and reach the best possible people for the show, as traditionally our best cast members have come through referrals and we know Penn is home to MANY, MANY intelligent students.
If you are interested, or anyone you know is interested please contact me for further details. I'd be glad to answer any of your questions, all applicants must be at least 21 years old.
In the past, we have had a Rubik's cube champion a speed chess champion, MIT's Pi recitation champion, a rocket scientist, Professors, and many other highly intelligent, highly skilled men on the show.
We look forward to coming to your school and meeting you and making season 5 the best cast yet!!!!!
