Penn Events
Apply for the PEER Mentoring Program! The deadline is Sunday, April 1st., 2007.
Do you consider yourself a leader? Are you interested in Asian Pacific American issues at Penn and around Philadelphia? If so, apply to PEER to be a mentor for the 2007-2008 school year! PEER (Promoting Enriching Experiences and Relationships) is Penn's only Asian-Pacific American Leadership and Mentoring program at Penn and addresses many aspects of the freshman transition through social, networking, leadership, academic, and cultural events. By becoming involved in PEER, you'll have a chance to pass on the leadership skills and knowledge of Asian-Pacific American issues that you've acquired at Penn to incoming freshmen so that they, too, can become great leaders.
Attached is a document which contains a further description of PEER and the application. Applications are due on Sunday, April 1st, by 3pm.
There will also be a Mentor Information Session on Monday, March 26th, at 6:30 pm, in Huntsman TBA. This session is not mandatory, but is a great way to get an introduction to PEER and get any questions you may have answered.
Please feel free to e-mail PEER at penn.peer.board@gmail.com or any of the
board members individually if you have any questions.

In this two part series, participants will read and discuss interviews, poems, and other texts collected in the process; and view and discuss various scenes from the 51st (dream) state. Participants will be invited to write and read original writing in response to the class. A concert of material from and related to the 51st (dream) state will be the culminating event.
Sekou Sundiata is a poet, theater and recording artist, and professor at the Eugene Lang College/The New School. He has been featured on HBO’s Def Poetry, and in the Bill Moyers’ PBS series, The Language of Life. He released his first recording of music and poems, the Grammy nominated, The Blue Oneness of Dreams, in 1997 and his second, longstoryshort, in 2000. Sundiata and his band completed a national tour with Ani DiFranco in the summer of 2001. His one-man show, blessing the boats, has been touring since 2002, traveling to more than 30 cities. His new music/poetry theater work, the 51st (dream) state, premiered in New York at the Next Wave Festival at BAM in 2006.
