What is your favorite part of Penn?
The diversity. Meeting people from all over the nation and
the world, hearing their stories, listening to their accents,
and tasting their foods. I thought being from Hawaii was cool,
but then I became friends with people from China, the Phillipines,
Nigeria... Brooklyn, Alabama, and of course, New Jersey! Our
different tastes in music and fashion are sometimes quite
amusing, but what's great is sharing a common goal to learn,
grow, and simply have fun during our college years. At Penn,
there is also a great diversity of interests and opportunities.
I appreciate the variety of extracurricular activities available,
as well as the chance to meet people of different talents
and passions.
What do you plan on doing after you graduate from
SEAS? How has SEAS helped prepare you for your career?
After I graduate, I will be working at Lockheed Martin. SEAS
has given me a solid academic foundation which enables me
to contribute in the workplace, a desire to continue learning
in order to fulfill my potential, the confidence to face and
overcome challenges, and an appreciation for teamwork and
mentors.
What makes you different from a stereotypical engineer?
How has Penn contributed to that?
I am different from the stereotypical engineer for
having participated in two special programs, study abroad
and submatriculation--both of which Penn supported me through.
In the fall semester of junior year, I studied overseas at
the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and had
an incredible experience. My credits transferred smoothly
as I received advising throughout the entire process, but
more importantly, emersing myself in a foreign culture for
four months was the chance of a lifetime. Secondly, I am graduating
from Penn with both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical
Engineering which is possible through the submatriculation
program at SEAS. Although it took a bit of course planning
and a lot of hard work, the amount that I learned and the
credentials I leave Penn with make it well worth the effort!
