How is Penn a diverse place?
Penn is diverse in that an outsider would look at the student
body and seemingly not see any clear connections. There are
students from different countries, educational backgrounds,
religions, family styles, socioeconomic status, and just about
every other category used to label a person. However, I think
most Penn students are alike in their ambition. Most people
took different paths to get here but work hard and are dedicated
to so many things outside of the classroom that it is clear
they share a common internal drive.
Besides schoolwork, what takes up most of your time?
Wait, time exists outside of class? Just kidding.
I am involved with the Solar Race Car Team and next year will
become the first female Team Leader along with Zach Kirkhorn.
I am treasurer of the Society of Women Engineers as well as
the business leader of the women's umbrella organization Penn
Consortium of Undergraduate Women. In addition, I am in a
family group within my church. And I must not forget the time
I set aside every week to watch Gilmore Girls with my fellow
addicts.
What is your favorite part of SEAS?
The best part of being an engineer at Penn is the sense of
community that develops freshman year and carries on throughout
my time here. Because we all have to take the same core classes,
we see each other almost every day each week. Whenever I am
in Towne, I am surrounded by people I know and can stop to
chat with because we have the common experience of struggling
through and surviving calculus and other such classes. A lot
of our labs are structured around group work, contrary to
the antisocial stereotype of engineers.
