Undergraduate Student Handbook

Course Load

A normal course load is 5 courses. No student should register for less than 4 courses. Students may not register for less than 4 courses nor more than 5.5 courses without submitting the appropriate form which may be obtained in 109 Towne or downloaded. In general, students with less than a 3.0 gpa are not permitted to take an overload. Students who have a heavy extracurricular load (ROTC, athletics, etc.) should consider taking only 4 courses per term. Additional courses can be scheduled during summers or in an extra term.

First-semester students are not permitted to register for more than 5.5 cu. An overload may be taken in the second semester, but the maximum course load will not be increased until after the first-semester grades are posted (usually by the beginning of January).
