Penn Engineering Introduces Innovative Program:
Master of Computer and Information Technology (MCIT)

February 15, 2001-Penn Engineering announces a new Master of Computer and Information Technology beginning in the fall of 2001. This innovative degree, offered by the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania, will give students who have a strong academic background, but no prior degree in computer science or engineering, the opportunity for a solid foundation in computer science.

"We've designed MCIT to provide the advanced expertise needed to meet the demands of today's rapidly growing and changing IT world," explains Graduate Group Chair, Dr. Val Tannen.

MCIT positions graduates to begin an IT career; advance in IT, if they already have an IT career; or continue with advanced studies in computer science.

Students in the MCIT Program benefit from Penn's well-established tradition of multidisciplinary teaching and research. MCIT faculty are affiliated with key Penn research institutes, centers and laboratories such as the Institute for Research in Cognitive Science (IRCS), the Center for Bioinformatics, the Center for Human Modeling and Simulation (HMS) and the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing, and Perception Laboratory (GRASP).

The deadline for applying for fall 2001 is June 1. Applicants should have a strong academic background, including a Bachelor's degree. For more information, visit http://www.cis.upenn.edu/mcit.
