SEAS Staff Recognition Award goes to Al Giandomenico

In recognition of the important role that staff play in supporting faculty, students and the goals of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the School established the Staff Recognition Award. The award recognizes non-faculty employees who contribute in an extraordinary way to achieving the aspirations of the School and who inspire excellent performance from others. This year’s award went to Albert Giandomenico of the Department of Bioengineering. Al has worked with undergraduate students as the Laboratory Coordinator in Bioengineering since 1996. Prior to coming to SEAS, he held several research positions in the Medical School. Notable among Al’s many accomplishments is that he worked on microcircuits for the Apollo Space Project before coming to Penn.
“Al’s excellent support of faculty and very positive influence on our students were echoed in the many nomination letters received,” stated Dean Glandt. “He is found to be ‘accessible to our students with no boundaries on his time or level of commitment.’” He was described as a very positive and enthusiastic presence in the laboratory. It was also said by one of the nominators that, “Al will be one of the most memorable employees of SEAS for many hundreds of our undergraduates, and will have a positive influence on their careers after graduation.”
