Research Interests:

Materials tribology, sliding electrical contacts, wear resistant coatings, anti-wear boundary films

Research in the field of oil additives is driven by a need for improved vehicle fuel economy and cleaner emissions.  Of particular interest are advances in anti-wear additives.  These additives form protective films on ferrous surfaces under boundary lubrication conditions.  My current research focuses on characterizing the morphology and frictional properties of tribologically formed anti-wear films using atomic force microscopy and lateral force microscopy.  Anti-wear film properties obtained through nanotribological characterization will be compared to the overall film behavior observed on the macroscale.
