Charge

• Identify, pilot and begin deployment of mechanisms supporting full use of the Distributed Computing Environment, specifically:
  • print requests
  • parallel processing
• "real-time" message delivery
• on-line help, consulting and advice systems
• directory services

"As less than 10% of the desktop computers at Penn are Unix workstations, it is clear that any useful user tools and resources must have Mac and PC / Windows clients. Unfortunately, I don't think you will find many tools that meet that need today, whereas you might stand a chance of finding some tools for Unix workstations. The challenge is then to find tools that you can learn about on Unix that stand a chance of showing up on PCs and Macs at some point."
