What is DCE- Brainstorming Session - 2:15 - 2:45
- Easily sharing resources when you want to but preventing
access when you don't want to share
- Sharing across multiple platforms, multiple sites
- Consistent user interfaces regardless of platform or connection
type
- Friendly; consistent within platform (desktop OS) across
connection type
- Access to "PRINTERS", files, data, processors (different OS)
- Ability to specify which processors
- Ability to "muster" processor power across network
- Single point of access, single sign-on, secure
- Printing on any printer regardless of location
- Need to be able to locate and secure resources
- Keyboard mapping consistency within a platform
User Tools and Resources Dependencies- 2:45 - 3:00
We discussed that the user tools that we will deploy are dependent
upon the services that are to be defined by the following work groups
- Authentication
- System Security and Authorization
- File Services and File System Management
Therefore, our group "startup" time will be a lot slower than the
other work groups.
Wrap up
In providing DCE user tools, we discussed that in our next meetings
we should discuss:
- What products to we want to be "dce-ized".
- What products are available.
Our next meeting will be in three weeks on Friday August 12, 2-3pm,
Location to be determined.
