Bridging The Digital Divide

CommuniTech is a student organization at the University of Pennsylvania that aims to assist neighborhoods in need by supplying them with computers and teaching technology skills to their residents. Our efforts stem from the recognition that the computer has become a central facet of everyday life in this rapidly advancing age of information technology. It has not only become an essential tool for school and business, but it is also a gateway to the vast knowledge that society holds.

Such an era, however, has the capacity to leave behind those without access to computers or the training to use them. As computers become more and more prevalent in society, it is imperative that those without access to computers be exposed to their benefits. Although we are an organization based in Philadelphia, our impact is global as we have led projects in New Orleans, Ghana, Cameroon, and India, as well as other sites around the world.

CommuniTech is a unique initiative in that it is an entirely student-driven community outreach group and fosters one of the largest footprints of any organization at Penn, tackling the challenges of bridging the digital divide one project and one person at a time.

Support CommuniTech

If you are an undergraduate or graduate student at Penn, we urge you to join CommuniTech and contribute in any way you can (no experience necessary).

We also need businesses of all sizes (from the Philadelphia School District to Google and Microsoft) to contribute by donating equipment and financing our trips around the world. All of our equipment is donated and we need your help! Please visit our sponsors page for more info, or contact us to schedule a meeting with a member of the board.
