The Penn Solar Racing Team (now Penn Electric) started in 1989 when a group of students and professors got together to build a car to race in the 1990 GM Sunrayce. The task proved challenging because no one else at Penn had previously attempted to build a solar car. From then the tradition and history of the Penn Solar Racing Team began. Penn constructed successful new cars for the bi-annual Sunrayce (now titled the North American Solar Challenge). In 2005, PSR completed construction on our newest car, Keystone. This year, we are beginning a new chapter by building a high performance electric race vehicle.

The Team still continues because it is best campus organization that provides hands-on engineering for engineers and management and financing for students attending Wharton. The Team exists as a microcosm of a real organization, giving students an unprecedented look and experience before entering the workforce. We are utilizing newer technologies, making the community and students of America interested in math, science, and engineering. Educational outreach has become a major branch of our team, following the philanthropic tradition at the University of Pennsylvania.
