Grading
policy:
The final grade will be based on homework, partial exams, and the
final exam, according to the following weights:
-
Homework
Sets:
20 %
- Midterm
Exams (non-cumulative): 40
% (see Syllabus)
-
Final
Exam (cumulative):
40
%
The Homework Sets are expected to be independent work. Its
fine to seek a hint from a friend once in a while, however, plagiarism
and/or carbon copies will not be tolerated,
and will result in a grade of zero for that HW. Excessive
teamwork should be considered as self-defeating.
Partial exams are not cumulative, and the scores of
each will be renormalized to an uniform distribution.
All exams are closed books. Calculators will be allowed. Using or
attempting to use unauthorized assistance, material or study aids
in examinations is a violation of the Code of Academic Integrity and will result in a zero grade
for the exam.
The
exams of previous years are available on Blackboard
(with the answers).
Late
Policy:
Homeworks
are due Wednesdays at 12:00 pm, at beginning of class. No late homeworks will be accepted.
Lateness due
to sickness or other major issues should be noted to Dr. Van der
Spiegel by email prior
to the HW deadline. Medical or other signed note will then be expected
afterwards at your own convenience.
Questions
about grading of midterms
must be presented to the instructor or the TA within one week after
the tests have been returned. After one week, no changes of grade
will be made.
