About me:

Teaching Statement: PDF (coming soon)
Research Statement: PDF

I am a lecturer and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer and Information Science, which is a part of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania. My advisor is Dr. Norman I. Badler. I have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from The Catholic University of America with minors in Mathematics and Politics, and a Masters degree in Computer Science from UPENN.

My research interests include realistically simulating decomposing virtual environments. I am primarily interested in physically based techniques that automatically blemish and decay scenes so they appear realistic. I am also interested in data-driven character animation techniques to synthesize natural and physically realistic motions. Specifically, multi-modal motion capture where I have published techniques on animating human fatigue.

For the past two years, I have managed the Center for Human Modeling and Simulation Laboratory at Penn, serving as the Associate Director. I have helped many undergraduates become published and go on to work for top companies: such as Dreamworks, Pixar, and Zynga.

Outside the classroom, I am very interested in photography (joekiderphotography.com), traveling (photos), reading (booklist), and sports.
