NASA Summer Internship

Over this summer I interned in the Attitude Control Systems engineering branch at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. I learned about small satellite attitude control while designing and prototyping reaction wheels for CubeSats.

IPD501

This intensive project-based course introduced me to new forms of manufacturing and allowed me to explore product design. The candy project introduced me to CAM, which I then used in mold, check, and the final project. Mold was a good experience in product development, and check gave us a taste of volume manufacturing. The final project was highly team focused, and required precise machining.

Mechatronics

This class brought together a lot of my interests in mechanical design, electrical design, and computer science. I also spent a lot of time in the class learning about controls. The final project was an unbelievable experience, as it allowed me to focus intently on one project for five weeks. I am proud of what we accomplished in that time.

Research

I have worked under Dr. Mark Yim for four semesters in the Modular Robotics Lab. After learning by assisting other researchers, I started working on my own project. Building a robotic system from the ground up has introduced me to new skills like PCB design and wireless communication.

Stirling Engine

In MEAM201 we spent the semester learning about machining by creating a stirling engine. This class introduced me to the rigors of precision manufacturing and showed me the joy of bringing a CAD design to life. I incorporated my love of wood and simple geometric design into my engine.

Woodworking

Woodworking is a tradition in my family, and I have inherited that love for craftsmanship. My favorite part of woodworking is bowl turning, as it allows me to discover the natural beauty inside of a tree. Guided only by a vague idea my tools peel away the layers of wood until I have found a finished product.

My exposure to robotics through FIRST inspired me to pursue mechanical engineering. The ability to design and realize robots that could complete complex tasks has captured my interest ever since.

Eagle Scout Project

To achieve my Eagle Scout Award, I designed and led the construction of an outdoor chapel at my church. This project taught me a lot about planning, coordination, and leadership. I am impressed with the work we were able to accomplish with hardworking volunteers.
