Article I- Name and Affiliation
The name of this organization shall be the Penn Persian Society (PPS).
 
Article II- Purpose
Section I- To increase exposure to and understanding of the Persian culture and traditions through a variety of social and informative events.
Section II-To confront common misconceptions regarding Iranian history and current affairs.
Section III- To strengthen a sense of community amongst Persian students at the University of Pennsylvania.
 
Article III- Membership
Section I- All University of Pennsylvania students with a genuine interest in and enthusiasm about Persian culture are eligible for membership.
Section II- All members are expected to attend meetings and PPS-sponsored events.
Section III- Only full members who pay dues will have voting privileges and will be eligible for membership on the Executive Board.
 
Article IV- Officers
Section I- PPS shall be administered by a President, Vice President and an Executive Board. All members, voting and non-voting, are invited to board meetings, but only Executive Board members are required to attend.
Section II-
The President should:
- Lead meetings of the society and the Executive Board
- Act as a general coordinator and delegate responsibilities to the Executive Board members
- Send regular meeting notes to the PPS
- Act as the liaison between PPS and the rest of the Penn community
- Hold Executive Board members accountable for their roles
- Assume the position of UMC representative
The Treasurer should:
- Assume the role of the President in his absence
- Serve as the SAC representative and attend Student Advisory Committee meetings
- Serve as the liaison between PPS and the Middle Eastern Center (and all other funding groups)
- Handle finances and keep an accurate account of all funds and transactions
- Be aware of all funding options (and involved stipulations) possible
The Executive Board should:
- Collect dues and maintain a list of paying and active members
- Be comprised of 4-6 members
- Coordinate advertising for PPS events
- Secure facilities both within and outside of Penn
Section III- Should vacancies occur among the officers of PPS, the leadership will collectively appoint a member to fill that position.
Section IV- Should an officer fail to accomplish his duties, an affirmative majority vote of full club members present at a regular club meeting would be required for removal from his leadership position.
Section V- Each officer’s term lasts for one year.
 
Article V- Voting
Section I- Elections for all officers shall be held at a regular meeting at or near the close of the fall semester. Elections shall be held with at least ten days notice.
Section II- Any full member can be nominated for a leadership position by any full member. Self-nominations are permissible.
Section III- All officer elections shall be held by secret ballot and will be counted by two executive board members.
Section IV- Members must be elected by a majority vote. If no majority is reached, run-off elections shall be held.
Article VI- Amendments and By-Laws any members can suggest an amendment to the constitution during a regular meeting. In order for this amendment to pass, a majority vote is required.
