In the center of the monument, the panels are about fifteen feet tall. Someone had laid a funeral wreath at the base of one of the panels. The face of the walls has been polished to a mirror finish, so that visitors to the memorial will see themselves reflected among all the names. When we visit a war memorial, we are given the chance to "reflect" upon the impact that the war had on us, even if we didn't know anyone who died in the war. As I took the picture, my reflected image was captured in the left panel.
