Lecturing Position

The following job advert might be of interest to people on this list.
I'm not completely selfless posting this -- I'll be joining the faculty
of uni SA and am looking for like-minded people. If you want to find
out more about one of the announced positions, I'd be happy to tell
you what I know. Note that deadline for applications is May 10th.

The School is the principal centre for teaching and research in
computing at the University offering a wide range of awards from
Diploma to Doctorate.  The School currently has 27 academic staff and
approximately 600 effective full-time students.

The Advanced Computing Research Centre, based in the School, is the
core computing research centre of the University of South Australia.
The main research areas are concurrent systems (hardware, software and
theory), database systems, software engineering, human computer
interaction and intelligent systems.

We wish to appoint an academic Level B to augment the growing teaching
and research capability of the School and the Research Centre.  The
successful applicant will have a doctorate in Computer Science or
equivalent accreditation and standing, a good research record in one
of the research areas listed above and a record of good teaching
performance in a tertiary education environment.

We also wish to appoint an academic Level A.  The successful applicant
will have an honours (or higher) degree in Computer Science, or
equivalent accreditation and standing, a desire to perform research in
one of the areas listed above and ability to undertake high quality
teaching in a tertiary education environment.

1.      DUTIES

The appointee will be expected to make contributions to the teaching and
research effort of the School of Computer & Information Science.

Principal duties are:

-       Preparation and delivery of lectures:
-       Conduct of tutorials and practical classes;
-       Participation in the research activities of the School;
-       Subject Coordination.

The duties listed above may be altered in accordance with the changing
requirements of the position.

2.      SELECTION CRITERIA

        ESSENTIAL

-       A proven record in research, including a good publication record,
in one or more of the existing research areas within the School, namely:
                        Software Engineering
                        Database Systems
                        Parallel, Concurrent and Distributed Systems
                        Intelligent Systems and Human Computer Interaction

-       A record of good teaching performance in a tertiary education
environment;

-       Good interpersonal and communication skills;

-       A PhD in computer science, or closely related discipline, or
equivalent accreditation and standing, or a PhD in another discipline, and
a strong record of scholarly achievement in Computer and Information
Science deemed equivalent to a PhD.

        DESIRABLE

-       Experience in postgraduate supervision;

-       A record of attracting competitive grants;

-       A record of collaborative research with industry;

-       Good organisational and administrative ability;

-       Experience in delivering distance education.

degree or higher degree in another discipline, or equivalent accreditation
and standing.

        DESIRABLE

-       PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent accreditation and standing;

-       Good organisational and administrative ability;

-       The ability to teach subjects in Software Engineering, Database
Systems and Computer Architecture.

Applicants without a PhD will be encouraged to undertake studies leading to
the award of a PhD.
