Listening Practice in English

Use these web sites to practice listening to academic/scientific material:

MIT Physics Class

At this link, you can listen to very entertaining and well-organized lectures from an introductory physics class.  If you know the material already, you can practice listening to the concepts in English.  In addition, you can see how a speaker effectively organizes and communicates his topic to an English-speaking audience.

Penn Physics Lab

The Penn Physics Department has prepared pre-lab demonstrations for this class.  Watch these to review use of language for giving directions and describing equipment and processes.

Other helpful web sites with listening components:

Merriam-Webster Learner's Dictionary: Pronunciation Practice

This website has exercises on various pronunciation issues.

American English Pronunciation Practice

This website presents exercises for discrimination between tricky sound pairs.

Randall's ESL Cyber Listening Lab

This website includes dialogs in natural speech, accompanied with exercises to test your comprehension.

On The Media

At this website, you can select news stories and listen to them.  You can also read transcripts of the material as you listen to it.
