Short Bio

I am a final year Ph.D candidate in Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania. I belong to the database research group and work with Prof. Zack Ives. I was a research intern with Google Research in New York City from June 2012 to Dec 2012, hosted by Cong Yu and Boulos Harb in the structured data group. I received my B.Sc in Computer Science and Mathematics (with First Class Honors) in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

My reserch interests include data integration and management of probabilistic data. Our Q System implements pay-as-you-go data integration, where large integration efforts are broken into user-driven, incremental subtasks. Users pose keyword queries over partly integrated data, encoded as a graph; the system links data and forms answers “on demand”; the user provides feedback over query answers, teaching the system which links are good and bad.

I love to play Chinese Chess. I won 6th place in the 2015 North American Cup Tournament and was awarded the first-category player title (北美一级棋士). I played a draw game with Grand Master Ronghua Hu in New York City in 2012.

My wife Cathy Tianjiao Zhang is a software engineer at Google. We live in Sunnyvale, CA.
