Penn Engineering

Welcome Admitted Students

Congratulations on being admitted to the School of Engineering and Applied Science Class of 2030!

Congratulations on your acceptance to the Penn Engineering Class of 2030! On behalf of the entire community of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania, I am delighted to welcome you.

You are stepping into engineering at a moment of extraordinary possibility. The tools at your fingertips, from advances in AI and data science to breakthroughs in biotechnology, materials, robotics and energy, are reshaping how we live and work. At Penn Engineering, we believe these tools matter most when they are guided by curiosity, integrity and a commitment to improving lives. Your talent, perspective and sense of purpose are exactly what this moment calls for.

From your application, we have come to know you as a scholar, creator and leader. You have challenged yourself, supported others and pursued ideas that matter to you. Those qualities will shape our community in meaningful ways, as Penn Engineering is defined not only by the excellence of our students, but by how they collaborate, question and care.

Here, you will learn by doing. You might find yourself conducting research alongside faculty in your first year, building a prototype with classmates late into the evening, launching a startup through one of our entrepreneurial programs, or applying your skills through community engagement projects in Philadelphia and beyond. Our faculty are also deeply invested in undergraduate education: They are not only pioneering researchers, but dedicated mentors who will help you discover what kind of engineer you want to be, and what kind of impact you want to make.

Our campus continues to expand and evolve, with new buildings and spaces designed to bring disciplines together and accelerate discovery in areas such as health, sustainability, AI and advanced manufacturing. Just as important are the student labs and makerspaces where ideas are tested, friendships are formed and futures begin to take shape. As you prepare for your first year, I hope you picture yourself collaborating across fields, engaging with the city around us and growing within a community that challenges and supports you in equal measure.

We understand that as the Fall 2026 semester approaches, you may have numerous questions and concerns. Please rest assured that we are here to provide direction and address any questions you may have. I urge you to review this webpage where you can access information and I also invite you to contact Ms. Ellen Eckert, Director for Undergraduate Admissions and Advising, at eckertel@seas.upenn.edu if we can be of assistance.

Once again, congratulations! I cannot wait to meet you, shake your hand and welcome you to Penn Engineering this fall.

Sincerely,

Vijay Kumar
