How do I install Skype on my CETS-managed Linux machine?

Skype is designed to be installed by the individual who will use it. The user configuration is part of the install process. Generally, we prefer to install software centrally so that everyone can use one copy, but for Skype we recommend that each person install their own copy into their SEAS home directory.

  1. Download the "Dynamic" Linux version of Skype.
  2. Once downloaded, untar the file, where "skype-filename" is the name of the file you downloaded:
    tar xjf skype-filename.tar.bz2
  3. Run Skype from the directory created.
