Honors and Awards:  Lindback Teaching Award - 1983

Research Expertise: Computer Vision | Machine Learning | Computational Geometry

Jean is interested in Computer vision, Machine learning, Robotics, 3D meshing, and surface reconstruction. He has generalized the clustering method using normalized cuts (due to Jianbo Shi) to graphs with negative weights. Generally he is interested in applying linear algebra and optimization theory, differential geometry, and harmonic analysis to problems arising in computer vision and machine learning. He has written textbooks on these topics.
