Although Philadelphia is not that far from Manhattan, it's pretty rare that we go into the city, maybe once every three or four years. Recently we went to a Philip Glass concert in the city, and walked from Penn Station to the theater. About halfway there I heard a familiar voice say "Hi Norm!" It was Britt, who worked for me as the Associate Director of the SIG Center for a couple of years. She had just left work when she literally passed me on the sidewalk. Google says that about 4 million people are in Manhattan on a weekday, so these are pretty slim odds: 1 in 4 million, times the rarity of being in NYC at all, times the exact time of day for this to happen. Maybe I should have bought a lottery ticket that day, too.
