Mehrdad Pourfathi

I am a research fellow at the Functional and Metabolic Imaging group at the Radiology department of the University of Pennsylvania working under the supervision of Dr. Rahim Rizi, as my academic advisor, and Drs. Stephen Kadlecek and Maurizio Cereda. My current area of research is hyperpolarized magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) for metabolic imaging and pH mapping. More specifically, I am interested in interventional and diagnostic applications of this technology to study metabolic alterations in lung diseases such as ARDS and cancer. I am also involved in a number of collaborative projects to study breast and livery cancer using hyperpolarized MRI.

Currently I am a senior graduate student in the department of Electrical and Systems Engineering with an emphasis on biomedical imaging and data analysis.
