TECHNICAL PAPERS
The ECOOP'99 conference invites high quality research
and experience papers related to the object-oriented
paradigm. Research papers should describe work that
advances the current object technology. Experience
papers should be of broad interest and will be
evaluated based on the new insights they provide into
the application and support of object technology. The
program committee will evaluate each contributed
research and experience paper based on its relevance,
  significance, clarity, originality, and correctness.

Suggested topics related to the object-oriented
paradigm include, but are not limited to:
    Analysis and design methods
    Concurrent, real-time, and parallel systems
    Databases and object persistence
    Design patterns
    Distributed and mobile objects
    Frameworks and software architectures
    Implementation techniques
    Language constructs
Reflection, adaptability, composability and reusability issues
    Theoretical foundations, formal methods

Papers must be submitted in two phases:
In the first phase, the abstract of the paper must be
    electronically submitted before (and including)
November 14th, 1998. Submission will be possible
starting October 24th, 1998. In the second phase, the full
paper must be electronically submitted in English, and
not longer than 10,000 words in length, before
November 28, 1998. Papers arriving late or clearly
longer than the limit may be rejected immediately,
without being reviewed. The authors will be notified as
soon as possible whether or not their paper will be
reviewed. Submission details, including the abstract
and full paper formats, will become available at the
    ECOOP'99 web site (http://ecoop99.di.fc.ul.pt) from
    October 1, 1998.

  Important Dates:
Electronic submission starting date: October 24, 1998
Electronic abstract submission: November 14, 1998
Electronic full paper submission: November 28, 1998
Notification of acceptance: February 6, 1999

TUTORIALS
Traditionally, ECOOP'99 hosts a two day tutorial
programme. Proposals for high-quality tutorials in all
areas of object-orientation from academic research to
industrial applications are solicited. Tutorial levels may
be introductory, intermediate, and advanced. Novel
topics and topics of broad interest are preferred.
Proposers can get the guidelines for tutorial submission
  via WWW (http://ecoop99.di.fc.ul.pt/guidelines/
tutorial.html). Both plain paper and electronic
  submissions are accepted.

  Deadlines:
    Proposal submission: November 28, 1998
Notification of acceptance: February 12, 1999
    Camera-ready notes: May 14, 1999

  Proposals should be submitted to:

WORKSHOPS
ECOOP'99 will host a number of workshops addressing
  different areas of object-oriented technology.
Workshops are intended to serve as a forum for
exchanging late breaking ideas and theories in an
evolutionary stage. They typically focus on either in-
depth analysis or broad-ranging approaches to areas
related to object-oriented technology. Guidelines for the
submission of workshop proposals are available at
  http://ecoop99.di.fc.ul.pt/guidelines/workshop.html.

  Deadlines:
    Proposal submission: November 21, 1998
Notification of acceptance: December 14, 1998

  Proposals should be submitted to:
    Ana Moreira
    ECOOP'99 Workshop Chair

PANELS
Panel sessions addressing important and timely topics
in object-orientation will be included in the main
conference. They should present interesting and
divergent views with solid practical and/or theoretical
backing. A good panel session can be the highlight of
the official programme for many attendees. We intend
to provide for the inclusion of the panelists position
papers in the conference proceedings. Proposers should
request the guidelines for panel proposals from the
address below or get them via WWW (http://
  ecoop99.di.fc.ul.pt/guidelines/panel.html).

DEMONSTRATIONS
Live demonstrations of all kinds of object-oriented
software will be presented at the conference. Technical
members of the implementation teams are expected to
give the demonstrations. Proposals are solicited for
both commercial and in-house systems, as well as
academic and corporate research. Demonstrations will
be selected on the basis of technical merit, novelty and
  relevance to object-oriented technology. Product
marketing or sales presentations are inappropriate for
this forum. Proposers should request the guidelines for
demonstration proposals from the address below or get

POSTERS
ECOOP will again include a poster exhibition,
  addressing object-oriented technology and theory.
These should present an opportunity for authors to
express new ideas and work-in-progress, and foster a
direct discussion of their work with the attendees. The
poster exhibition will be displayed in the conference
area for the whole duration of the conference, and
special opportunities will be created for visiting the
exhibition. Proposers can get the guidelines for poster
