Transferring your SEAS mailbox to another email account

[Note: In order to forward future messages to a new account, see How do I forward mail from one account to another?]

In the past we offered a service that forwarded all of your mail in your SEAS mailbox to another account. Unfortunately many email services no longer allow these types of transfers. The typical reason is to deter spam and other types of attacks. Here are three other possible ways to transfer your mail:

1. Many email services allow you to check other email accounts through their interface - this will allow you to move all of your SEAS mail over to your new account. For how to do this in Gmail, please see this Answers article. For other mail services, you will have to check to see if they have a way you can import mail.

Note that you can only redirect one email at a time. The advantage of using "Redirect" instead of "Forward" is that you maintain the "From" and "Date" information associated with the email.

2. You can also use an email reader to transfer the mail to your personal computer. To do this in Thunderbird, create a new folder under the "Local Folders" area. Then drag and drop messages from your "@seas.upenn.edu" account into the new folder you created. Multiple messages, and even whole folders can be moved at once.
