What does this FlexNet error mean?

FlexNet is a common licensing solution for many softwares used at SEAS, including MATLAB. Below are the most common errors SEAS users encountered while using a CETS-managed software license.

-39 User/host not on INCLUDE list for feature

This is by far the most common error users encounter when running software managed by FlexNet.

Checkouts of network floating licenses depend on your computer's hostname being listed in a hostgroup on our license server. If the hostname is not listed or typed incorrectly, checkouts will not work normally and will yield a -39 error. The license server is case sensitive. Running the command hostname in the command line interface on any software platform will provide the output CETS needs to help you get back up and running as quickly as possible.

-87 Checkout exceeds MAX specified in options file

A network floating license is based on adding a computer's hostname to the CETS hosted license server. There is no limit to the number of hostnames that can be added but only one unique computer/hostname can use the network license at any given time. Purchasing additional network licenses will add reservation seats to a given hostgroup. You will receive a -87 exceeds MAX error if a second host computer tries to check out MATLAB before the first has been checked back in.

You may check a license back in, or purchase additional network license seats at $150/seat to avoid this error.
